Description

There are 1.25 million people who die from road traffic accidents in the world every year and more than 70% of these accidents are caused by distracted attention or fatigue driving by the drivers. When the driver sends a short message, the risk of collision is 23 times higher at that time even though the action only takes 4.5 seconds; however, it is equivalent to driving blindly over an entire football field at the speed of 90 kilometers per hour that causes extreme danger to the driver and surrounding pedestrians.

In order to curb the tragedies from happening continuously and improving road safety, Euro NCAP stipulates that from 2020, all new cars on the road are required to be equipped with Driver Monitoring System; and several states in the United States enacted the laws to compel drivers to focus on road driving. For this reason, the market for automotive electronic systems that detects driver's distraction and fatigue has thereupon opened up.

The focus of the Driver Monitoring System development is how to accurately determine the state of driver from the complex and subtle facial features of the driver. This has become the technical test for driving detection system in facing ever-changing conditions and requirements of precision.
