IoV R&D Director of Unimax Electronics Inc. Lee, Yen-Chun indicated that practical functions like traffic monitoring, fatigue detection, and accident notification can be achieved through the connection between the vehicle body, the smart vehicle system, and the cloud.
Taking life cases for example, good conditions of a vehicle play a large role in driving safety. Thus, more and more vehicles are installed with on-board diagnostics to detect various states of vehicles. In case of insufficient tire pressure or the high water temperature, the vehicle body will send a message to the owner’s communication software (such as LINE and Wechat) through IoV to remind the owner of the vehicle conditions.
When a vehicle is parked, IoV will set up an invisible electronic fence around the vehicle. When the vehicle is improperly displaced or shakes abnormally, IoV will send an instant message to the owner’s communication software (such as LINE and Wechat). In case of burglary, roadside crash, car towing, parking glide, and stealing, the owner may control the vehicle conditions instantly when he/she is away from the vehicle.
In addition, car accidents caused by fatigue driving can also be solved by IoV. IoV performs multiple fatigue detection to determine whether the driver is in a state of fatigue and has the driver’s family members or friends to call the driver in a timely manner by sending a message to them via communication software; IoV also notifies the motorcade of ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers.
In case of accidents, subsequent handling is always alarming. IoV can detect accidents automatically and send an accident message to the central control center via cloud depending on situations. The central control center is responsible to contact drivers, provide roadside assistance and medical rescue, and handle insurance claims.
When detecting an accident, IoV can locate the accident automatically and send an accident message and the location of the accident to the medical institutions or the driver’s family members or friends in order to complete the medical notification at prime time and avoid delayed medical treatment due to the remote accident scene and the seriously injured in a coma.
Lee, Yen-Chun indicated that applications of IoV are far-reaching, ranging from drivers, vehicle manufacturers, software/hardware manufacturers, medical institution, insurance companies, roadside rescue units, and the police.
